"Kunstenaars, utopische architecten en radicale stadsplanners bezetten acht appartementen in de wijk Luchtbal. Als laatste bewoners geven zij hun invulling aan het idee ‘wonen’.
Verschillende oude appartementsblokken in de Antwerpse woonwijk Luchtbal moeten binnenkort wijken voor nieuwe sociale woningen. Een belangrijke ingreep die kadert in een masterplan van de stad Antwerpen, maar die ook een einde maakt aan het verleden van de mensen die er gewoond hebben.
CC Luchtbal, Middelheimproductie en Stad in Verandering zagen echter geen reden tot treurnis. Zij wilden de geplande werken zelfs vieren en doen dan met het Habitatfestival.
Gastcurator Bruno Herzeele nodigde acht nationale en internationale kunstenaars(collectieven) uit om elk een appartement om te bouwen tot een unieke habitat."

Artists, utopian architects and radical city planners will occupy eight apartments in the neighbourhood Luchtbal in Antwerp. Being the last inhabitants of the place, they will give their own impressions of the concept 'living' - 'habitat'. The building is part of a series of buildings that will be demolished at the end of the year to make room for a new social housing complex - an important operation that will cut an end to the past of many people. There is however no need for sadness, as we choose to let the buildings live their last days in a feast of the potential they have to stir the imagination.
Curator Bruno Herzeele invited eight artists or collectives to turn each apartment into a unique habitat.
